I will confess, I don't really see the demand of half helmets. Unlike full face and three quarter helmets, half helmets lack anything but the most elementary of safety. They are like wearing a bicycle helmet, but at soaring speeds. Half helmets hardly shield your head. Whereas they will absorb a sharp crash if the angle is right, they wrap so little of the face that your head will possible make contact with the pavement. And since there's no Plexiglas to protect you from rocks, pebbles, bugs and dust, all of that will go right into your face. Now, I can visualize that you get a great sense of freedom from riding with a half helmet. The air is in your face in a way that three quarter helmets can't match. But between bugs and a lack of safety, they just aren't a harmless choice.
